Statement of Purpose

My studies in the Interdisciplinary Liberal Arts major have included focuses in

literature, history, and environmental studies. These focuses have helped me think

about problems that are different from my own perspectives. I have developed skills in

critical thinking, writing, and analyzing new and different ideas as well as learning the

importance of connecting ideas across different groups of subjects. I feel that I have

grown confident in sharing and explaining my own ideas more clearly.

This portfolio will show various work I’ve done in my essays, research papers, and

other assignments. The assignments I've included in this portfolio reflect my interdisciplinary

learning through topics such as environmental issues, language acquisition, literature,

and rhetorical analysis. Each piece will help reflect my ability to think deeply while

communicating clearly. My education journey has helped me grow both as a student

and a thinker. I now feel that I have stronger problem-solving and research skills than I

did before. Overall, this portfolio will show the new skills and knowledge I have

acquired, and how I can use them in future professional settings after my time at

Colorado State University.

Growing up, I always found myself thinking outside the box, questioning and investigating the things that I didn’t fully understand. My curiosities always seemed to get the better of me, leading me toward new interests and hobbies such as engineering, history, psychology, and now aviation. My interest in aviation has turned into a passion that I want to pursue, and I can honestly thank Interdisciplinary Studies for this new love of mine. This major has given me the freedom to study all kinds of material and has allowed me to find my own path during my time at Colorado State University. Instead of being limited to a select number of options, this major has helped me branch out intellectually in my own unique way.
